Things Seem Worse at Night

Be it a bad dream, anxiety, or just general sadness, it all seems worse in the middle of the night.

Stay-At-Home Matt in the Mail!!!!!!

Okay, yesterday I got home from picking up my son at school, checked the mail and saw that my original art work from Matt Graupman had arrived!!! I LOVE getting mail, but even better I LOVE getting presents in the mail! THank you, Thank you Matt!!! I love it and it is magnificent! You completely, totally, utterly ROCK!!!! Yours will be sent shortly!

Here's a photo of the piece that Matt sent and you can see how small and beautifully detailed his drawing is. It is a sweet little treasure!

Actually, the page is smaller than it appears in the pic... I couldn't get it to size right. But anyway, there it is and I couldn't be more thrilled to own my own original Stay at Home Matt comic! (Oh and also super cool, Matt decorated the envelope it came in!)

P.S. As for my own little comic up there, sorry for the blue lines showing... I still haven't figured out how to get the gray comics to scan right. And how do you like that cool font on the title??? I have a font obsession. Sadly, there is no cure.

Gettin' Freaky

This comic probably won't make sense unless you've read yesterday's comic

Happy Saturday!

Seven Typical 24 Hour Units of My Life

Inspired by the Bangles' Manic Monday. Kind of a down and dirty comic. I was tired of getting my t-square out and measuring things just so.

Also, still trying to figure out how I can score some color Copic markers for cheap or a coupon, or a gift... (mommy???) Those cost more than a 32 gig iPod Touch (which I also want)!!!

Whatever. I'll get nothing and like it.

She Can Talk Now

So, it turned out my mom was messed up from a very strong pain killer. Once she got off that she steadily got better. Her other issues are clearing up too. You can see she's getting back to herself now...

As for the grayscale... still experimenting. I really like the layering of the background on the third panel. Don't like the dark edges on the first two very much tho. No matter what, the process is awesome and fun. Loving the journey!

Thanks for looking!

Relief (Versions 1 & 2)

Here is a color version of the comic of the day. My usual technique of drawing and inking, scanning and coloring in photoshop.

Below is the same comic colored by hand with Copic markers. Still some work to be done here I think, with coloring technique... but I'm not ready to give up on it yet. AND it doesn't scan as well, tho I tried several different settings. Don't you just love the process! It's half the fun!

Original Mindzai Comic Artwork!

Here's a piece of original artwork that I made for Mindzai's 100th fan on Facebook! It was drawn on 140lb coldpress watercolor paper (5X5") with Rapidograph pen (.5) and colored with Copic warm gray markers. This is my first try using the Copic markers and I like them a lot! I plan to do a bunch more! And when I win the lottery I'll start buying the colorful markers and coloring my comics with those.

Wait, Did You Just Make a Funny?

This happened last week when my mom was in the hospital. It's always amazing to me that both my mom and dad can joke around even when they're at their worst. I hope I can be so gracious if I am in that position! Stay tuned for more Adventures With a Bedpan!

On another note, I am failing miserably at drawing hands. I've always heard it was difficult and it is. Crap.

Brief Hiatus

I won't be posting for a little while, my mom's in the hospital and not doing well. I hope to post something soon. It's really hard to see your mom failing. I'm praying and hoping for the best.

Thanks to everyone for reading my comics! it means a lot to me and I'll be back soon, I promise!

The Magic Touch

He knows me well...

A Wonderful Thing

I really hesitated to post this because I seem to post a lot of cartoons about common bodily functions, but it's really true to life. This happened yesterday morning when Nate got up. I guess a lot of a 10 year old's life is centered around bodily functions. I guess being a mom a lot of my life is centered around bodily functions, too. So, I apologize if you are getting tired of "potty" humor but that's just how it is in our family.

Having said that, I will add that the kids are passing around the stomach flu and I could be cartooning that!!! But I won't.

Brotherly Greeting

My mom's been in the hospital the last few days with a broken cluster of blood vessels in her stomach. She's good now and home. So, sorry for the lack of cartoons for the past few days.

Pancakes For Dinner

We used to watch an old Mike Meyers SNL sketch called "Simon" which inspired the question in this cartoon...
You can check out one of the sketches here.
