Stupid Brain

Hi Everybody!
Today's comic is brought to  you by the Pentel Pocket Brush pen which comes highly recommended by some of the finest cartoonists in the land (not the least of which is Xeric Award Winner, Sam Spina!). Given that my comics career is in its infancy, I'm still experimenting with style and content, so I don't mind posting my first attempt at using the brush pen. I found it difficult, but I'm determined to practice til I find a way to produce something I really like! I also need to figure out how to make my comics faster. Spending 3-5 hours per comic is too long, I think. Unless all you other cartoonists out there say you spend that much time on one comic, then, I guess, okay.
In other news, I went to the Northwest Comic Con in May and met some cool indie cartoonists that I will talk about here in the near future. It is summer, therefore there are a million things to do outside. Drawing comics is one of them, but sometimes takes a back seat to mowing the lawn, planting flowers, digging up crap in the yard. I am also the family taxi driver, so I have been spending a lot of my days driving people places. And finally, my hub, Phil is in Tanzania, Africa for two weeks. (See a video of the town where he is working and playing music.)

Thanks for reading my comics!
Love, Robin

  1. Great comic, Robin, and I totally wouldn't have guessed that was your first try with a pocket brush.

  2. yea that brushwork looks great! i also love the long format, the longer the better! and it usually takes an hour to do one of my strips, i say quantity over quality when it comes to mine, but I really love how perfect yours look! 5 hours on one comic is brutal though

  3. Your skills with the pocket brush are looking pretty good to me. Like the ink wash with it too.

  4. A new pen! I use three now on my current comic. Four sometimes. And now with the coloring... five would be wonderful. I'm at six or even seven hours. But... I'm kind of slow in an overall sort of way. Too much brain stomping perhaps. Great comic!

  5. What now? I'm trying to post a comment on Robin's website. Hm? I don't know. Maybe in the refrigerator. [long pause] Check in the pantry then. We've looked everywhere else. [sighing sound] We should just use the extra key. We'll find it later. What?! I don't- [frustrated sighing sound] How do you leave a message at the- BEEP.

  7. Thank you, Neale! I feel much better now! It's just that there's so much in life that needs to be done and I want to spend more time drawing. It's so frustrating. If I were more adept at it, I could do it faster. I guess good things just take time.
